A smarter way to deliver: Meet Dimond’s new purpose-built truck

You might have already spotted it on the road - our latest truck a UD CG460 8x4, has officially joined the Dimond fleet, and it’s a bit special. Designed in partnership with John West Logistics (JWL), with input from Simon Thompson and Jonathan McFadyen, and brought to life by the team at Ideal Transport Engineering in Pukekohe (led by Greg Hickford and Allan Newman), this build is all about doing the job better for our customers and our drivers. We’ve also had great support from the team at Palfinger in Wiri on the fit-out.

What does this truck allow us to do? This design gives us more flexibility in how we load and carry product. We can now load a wider range of flashings and packs of iron directly on the deck without the same constraints. It makes it easier to manage different product types and combinations in a single load.

Why are we calling it “first of its kind”? Because it is. This is the first time Dimond and JWL have worked on a truck design like this.  It’s a unique set-up for both organisations, combining practical experience from the yard, the road, and the engineering team to deliver something purpose-built for the job.

Does the truck carry more product in one trip? The new Dimond /JWL truck can carry more product in one trip which is ideal when leaving Invercargill and being away for up to 14 hours driving.  With the different loading combinations we are not restricted as to when the longest length of iron comes off

What does this mean for our customers? At the end of the day, it’s about better delivery outcomes on site.

•            Can take more tonnage than previous ridged designs ,

•            less damage, better DIFOTIS

•            More loading combination means more efficient service, not restricted by what we can carry

For our customers, that translates to more efficient deliveries and product arriving in the condition it should - helping keep projects moving without unnecessary delays. There are also added safety benefits for our drivers, including improved tie-down options, safer deck access, and a non-slip surface.

This truck might look like just another addition to the fleet - but it represents the kind of practical improvements that make a real difference day to day.

A big thanks again to everyone involved in bringing it together.
