Dimond Teams Build Bikes for the Community: A Day of Fun, Teamwork and Giving Back
At Dimond, we believe some of the strongest teams aren't just built on the job site or in the office - they're built when people step away from their everyday roles and come together for something completely different. That's exactly what happened when branches from across New Zealand took part in a nationwide "Build a Bike" team day.
Why Team Bonding Matters at Dimond
For a company that's all about building strong, reliable roofing and structural products, spending a day building bikes instead might seem like a curveball — but that's exactly the point. Team building only really works when it pulls people out of their comfort zone and gets them working together in a completely new way.
We know that the strongest teams aren't built through instruction manuals and meetings alone — they're built through shared experiences, a bit of healthy competition, and moments where everyone has to muck in together to get the job done. "Build a Bike" gave every branch exactly that opportunity, all on the same day, all across the country.

Getting Stuck In: How the Day Unfolded
Across every participating branch, teams were split into small groups and set the challenge of assembling bikes from scratch — no small feat, and definitely not something most of us do every day. Toolkits were opened, instructions were pored over (and occasionally debated), and pretty soon every branch had its own mini production line going.
There was a healthy dose of friendly competition between teams, plenty of laughs, a bit of good-natured trial and error, and a real sense of achievement once the bikes rolled off the workbench in one piece. Some teams powered through with military precision; others took the scenic route with a few extra laughs along the way — but every single team got there in the end.

Making It Fun and Interactive
We're firm believers that the best team days are the ones people actually look forward to. Rather than a standard conference-room exercise, "Build a Bike" gave our teams something physical, practical, and genuinely enjoyable to get stuck into together. Everyone had a role to play, problem-solving was part of the fun, and by the end of the day there was a real sense of pride in what each team had built — not to mention plenty of banter about whose bike came together the smoothest.

It's this kind of interactive, hands-on approach that Dimond values when it comes to bringing our people together — team building that's engaging, a little bit challenging, and, most importantly, fun.

Giving Back to the Community
But the day wasn't just about our teams - it was also about the wider community. Every single bike built was donated to local schools within the communities our branches operate in, turning a great day of teamwork into something with real, lasting impact well beyond our own walls.

We'd also like to extend a special thank you to Kingspan Thermakraft for their generous support of the initiative. It was fantastic having the Kingspan team join in on the event itself too, building bikes alongside our branches and making the day even more of a shared team effort.

Delivering the Bikes: Auckland
That impact became real this week, as our Auckland branches of Dimond Structural and Dimond Roofing delivered the bikes they built to Papakura Central School and Te Papapa School in Onehunga.

It was a lovely opportunity for the team to meet the students in person and see first-hand the joy these small gifts brought - something Dimond as a brand is genuinely proud to contribute to the community. At Te Papapa School, the students even put on a special performance for the team, singing a song to say thank you - a lovely, unexpected moment that capped off the whole experience.

From building the bikes together as a team, to handing them over to students who were absolutely delighted to receive them, it's been a wonderful reminder of what our teams can achieve when they come together - both for each other, and for the communities we're part of. It's this combination of team bonding, fun, and giving back that Dimond is proud to keep championing.
